An unreliable memoir

The Eyes Have It

Harvestman
Dew-soaked harvestman – unknown species.
An early morning foray yielded this three image focus stack of a harvestman bathed in dew). Then the flash seemed to wake it up and it started waving its legs around.
At this magnification, the angle reminds me of a marine crayfish – the Arthropoda have a long reach. What I find fascinating in these insect macro shots are the eyes. Although they don’t have the same resolution as mammalian eyes, insect predators are clearly visually oriented.
